National Register of Historic Places
Davis Buckley Architects and Planners (DBA) developed a phased interior renovation for the 115,000 square foot hotel in the National Register-listed Watergate Complex, one of DC’s first mixed-use buildings. The first phase included renovation of the entry level lobby and administrative offices. The second phase involved renovating 12 floors of guest rooms on a floor-by-floor basis. The final phase involved renovating the restaurant, bar, meeting and conference room on the B-1 level.
Fire and life safety issues were a key concern in complying with applicable codes. New mechanical systems were installed and a sprinkler system was introduced. Extensive coordination was required by the Architect in order to accomplish all phases of the renovation without interrupting the hotel during normal operations.
Following the renovation of the Hotel, DBA redesigned the retail courtyard of the Watergate complex. This included new signage, lighting, paving, and storefront design.
